On Darwin Harbour sits a construction project that’s so far taken 10 years, blown out by hundreds of millions of dollars, and is not predicted to be finished by its 2027 deadline.
Now, NT government sources have told the ABC that public costs for the Darwin ship lift may hit more than $1 billion dollars in coming years – a far cry from $100 million first pledged.
The beleaguered ship lift project, which is already currently budgeted at $820 million, has been branded as one of the biggest infrastructure blow-outs in Australia’s recent history. Matt Garrick has this report for Stateline Northern Territory.
