[Golden Sun Remix] Kalt Island

After I finished this a few nights ago, I was talking to the Kradenette who won the last raffle on which tune from the soundtrack I would tackle next. I told him that this one was a tough nut for me to crack. The source material on this is so saccharine and trite. Sakuraba did an outstanding job on both The Broken Seal and The Lost Age, but you can tell that for a very small number of the tracks, he just turned his brain off, or at least had it working at only 50% power. This is one of them. The A Section of the source material sounds like it belongs in Professor Umbridge's office at Hogwarts. But unless I'm making a musical joke, I can't do something that's saccharine and trite. The world holds for us only wistfulness, the guarantee of pain, the inevitability of death, and the immutable laws of nature. I'm so, so deep, I know.

So, what to do with Kalt Island, which is also used as filler music for some of the Western Sea Islets?

It took a conversation with another Kradenette to remind me in the first place that this was used for islands other than Kalt. This theme is so tightly locked in place in my headcanon with Tundaria and Imil, the coldest parts of Weyard. As such, you will hear similarities in instruments, voicing, and palette between this and the Imil remix. As I considered this reality, I thought for a moment that I was being lazy. But instead, I concluded was just applying my modus operandi in a consistent manner. I decided that it wasn't a fault, and the remix would survive as-written. Besides, this is how actual game composers have been historically obligated to write: with a limited set of instruments and textures.
