I’ll be honest with you, I love how Pelican cases look. They’re big, beefy, and scream “indestructible.” But on this 50-case journey, we’ve learned that looks don’t always translate to protection. And after dropping the Pelican Shield over 30 times… this case proved that point again.

Pelican Shield iPhone 17 Pro Max Case [Compatible with MagSafe] Rugged Phone Case w/ 24ft Military-Grade Drop Review
-the Pelican shield looks like it could survive anything
-the edges are giant pieces of TPU glued onto a PC frame
-with a lot of design elements
-I got the aramid fiber version and the back of the case is sunk
-so it won't scratch
-or slide around
-I really like the actual metallic screw accents
-unlike the fake ones you'd find on UAG cases
-they're not functional but look cool
-the iPhone doesn't sit on anything soft in the case
-hard PC with ridges
-this case, out of the 30 I've tested
-is the only one with a belt holster
-case top and bottom are tapered
-overall a well thought out case BUT it has a fatal flaw
-the Pelican shield is one of the grippiest cases I've used
-and it does it well
-the edge of the case has a matte finish to it
-and all these design elements allow your fingers to have a natural anchor point
-one of the biggest cases in my test group
-going to add 75G to your iPhone, way higher than the 50g average
-Going to make your iPhone feel 107% bigger which is wild
-for corner drops, my iPhone recorded 13.3G's at 3ft
-that's 27% higher than average
-now the rotation rate after it drops
-42% higher than average
-settling rate?
-14% slower than average
-so high intial impact, more rotation, rings longer
-bad combo
-overall force is 27% higher
-for face first drops?
-despite it's super rigid back
-well, the fit of the top of the case is terrible
-because it fails
-BY a lot
-like the initial impact is 123% worse than average
-for the camera lump
-pelican's done something different
-it's basically a solid piece around the camera lump
-you have the PC back, a TPU front BUT also a layer of PC as well
-so the intial impact is 17% better than average
-settling rate is 13% below average
-BUT the total force is 30% better than average
-so that combination of the rigid back with a TPU layer works pretty well
-corners on this case are massive BUT they are angled
-at it's thickest, they're 5.8MM thick
-the back is 3.2mm thick so above average as well
-the back of this case is super ridgid, taking 82N to bend 8mm
-that's 186% stiffer than average
-so massive corners, super stiff back, this is what protective cases are known for right?
-It's all for show
-for MagSafe, took 9.3N to pull accessories off, 11.3N to push
-that's better than average by 39%
-almost too strong for my liking...almost
-buttons are integrated
-easy to find
-but they're stiff to press and once you press them, they feel squishy
-not a big fan of the exposed
-port cutout is large enough for my biggest cables
-and is covered so no pinky annoyances here
-screen access is really great
-even with the big case edges, Pelican added a gentle slop to it so it feels way smoother when swiping left to right
