Going through the Schroeder etudes and we are going to Schroeder 8. I always talk about playing with a metronome, but no one says that the steady beat has to be just a single click.
Here we are setting the quarter note beat to equal 113.
This is a great etude for beginners because we stay in first position and we also work on notes in first position and open strings. It'd be good practice to play through the C major scale so you can keep remembering whether it is 2 or 3 that you use to play those natural notes. This short etude really spans all of the strings on the cello so it is like playing a C Major scale but the notes are all scrambled. Keep working on producing a great resonant sound and having enough bow for the short and long notes. Remember we want to try to use different lengths of bow for quarter notes versus eighth notes.
