Ken Murray plays Echoes of Rain by Sanghoon Lee on an Altamira Hanson N3 Concert Guitar.
Echoes of Rain is a meditative piece that reflects on the various textural quality of rain. With the sparse and atmospheric resonance of guitar, mirror harmony and arch-like form the piece attempt to replicate the reflective character of shattering raindrops on a surface of the water. The piece consists of three sections that return in an arch-like manner, in which each of the sections represents the different status of rain: steady, calm, and ringing (Campanella). Although being relatively slow, the piece demands exceptional technicality to a performer as the piece involves extended techniques and, complex passages with interchanging harmonics.
Sanghoon Lee is a composer, guitarist and sound artist who was brought up in South Korea. Strongly influenced by his father, an amateur yet passionate guitarist, he taught himself the instrument from a young age. Later, his interest in music further developed and led him to seek professional training as a guitarist. He was awarded multiple prizes in competitions and began training in classical guitar with scholarship 2019 Bachelor of Music Scholarship at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Since 2020, Sanghoon has been studying the art of composition with many of the leading composers of Australia, such as Melody Eotvos, Christine McCombe and Miriama Young.
