'In Era Of Geopolitical Turmoil', Italy Sees India As Europe’s Growth Anchor, Bets Big On EU FTA

Italian Ambassador to India Antonio Bartoli says unpredictability has become the new normal, and in such times, partnerships rooted in trust and scale matter most. He describes Europe as a vibrant economy with ancient civilisational depth, much like India, and positions Italy as one of India’s most reliable partners. The proposed India–EU Free Trade Agreement, he says, could transform this partnership. Bartoli points to a five-year India–Italy strategic roadmap from 2025 to 2029, covering trade, defence, space, technology, energy, startups and connectivity corridors like IMEC. With Italy being Europe’s second-largest industrial powerhouse and a global leader in advanced machinery, the ambassador argues that Italy’s strengths align perfectly with India’s manufacturing ambitions, offering Europe a stable economic bridge through New Delhi.
