I get asked the same question all the time by business owners here in New York: 'How much is it actually gonna cost me to build a website?'
Look, I’m not gonna give you the runaround—here are the real numbers.
First up, let's look at a basic professional site. Imagine an accounting firm. They just need the essentials: a company profile, 'Meet the Team' bios, some professional headshots, and a contact page. This is the kind of site you put on your business card so people know you’re the real deal. You’re looking at about $500 a year.
Next, we have a more 'hands-on' site. I recently worked with a beauty salon owner who wasn’t 'techy' at all. She needed a way for her staff to easily upload photos and videos of their latest manicures or treatments directly from their phones. Because it needs that extra functionality on the back end, that runs about $1,200 a year.
Finally, there’s the heavy hitter: E-commerce. Think of something like an auto parts site—basically a mini-Costco. The owner sells to body shops and dealerships, so every client gets their own private login. They can search the inventory, see their own specific pricing for every part, and checkout right there via credit card or Zelle. If you’ve got a warehouse here in the States and a big catalog, this is the way to go. That’s roughly $3,600 a year.
