(A song I wrote but AI sang:) This song was born as a sister tale to my other song "Target, Target" where a dragon plays a cruel cat-and-mouse game with a knight who dared to raid its hoard, toying with him from the skies. While writing that, another story came to me: a bard, sitting at the gates of a great stone castle, watching as over the years, lines of armored knights march proudly out with banners high, intent on slaying the beast and reclaiming the tyrant king’s stolen wealth. But none ever return. So the bard lifts his lute and sings, not of glory, but of warning. His song weaves the story of greed, of knights blinded by gold, of a dragon’s fire consuming them all. It becomes a dirge, a reminder to the people and the warriors who remain that treasure is a cruel master, and that those who march to claim it often vanish in the smoke. This is the bard’s warning, a tale of knights who left for fortune, but never came home that day.
