Are you ready for the time of your life? Well, I’m being overly dramatic, but this is gonna be fun, rediscovering some unheralded treasures, and it’s gonna make you think about songs that you always thought shoulda been MUCH bigger by bands that also should been bigger than they were. That’s why we’re calling this show SHOULDA. This is going to be fun because it include some bands that many viewers have been requesting for a long time.

Our countdown kicks off with an exceptional cover of a song that opens with that wonderfully romantic line “Are you ready for the time of your life?” It’s the a capella reimagining of “Caravan of Love” by a band that was massive in their homeland but never quite made it here in the States but shoulda the Housemartins at #5: The original version of “Caravan of Love” was the creation of a group that billed themselves as Isley, Jasper, Isley. The writing credits were split between the three of them: Isley, Jasper, Isley were brothers Marvin and Ernie Isley and their brother, Chris Jasper, all former members of the Isley Brothers. After breaking away from the family group, the trio—led by Chris Jasper—wrote and produced Caravan of Love, using Jasper’s interjections to weave Christian beliefs into their music. The song became their biggest hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard R&B singles chart, but stiffed at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100 in ’85. It would be their only major hit before they went their separate ways into solo careers in 1988.
