Junction transistor and h parameters
Introduction
The bipolar junction transistor (BJT), one of the most important semiconductor devices, was invented by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockley at Belt Laboratory in America. They were awarded the Nobel prize in recognition to their contribution to physics. This invention has had an unprecedented impact on the electronic industry in general and on solid state research in particular. Prior to 1947, semiconductors were only used as thermistors, photodiodes and rectifiers, but after the invention of transistor, various other inventions like integrated circuits, photoelectronic devices, microprocessors and compact computers took place. Transistors have many advantages over vacuum tubes i.e. much smaller size, no filament and hence need no heating power, cheap and have much longer operating life time.
