Join me on a breathtaking journey to Point Lookout State Park, a stunning destination located at the southern tip of Maryland's St. Mary's County. Nestled between the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River, this park belie its history as the location of a camp which imprisoned as many as 52,264 Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. A museum on site recounts this vivid history.
At 0:11, you will see the historic Hammond Hospital along with rail tracks passing through the area. These tracks were used to swiftly transport wounded and sick soldiers, who were offloaded from ships directly onto the train carts for treatment as they arrived in large numbers.
