Описание: The Bombay High Court in Goa has sought fresh answers from the authorities regarding the deteriorating state of Mala Lake, where the recent deaths of several fish sparked public outrage and legal action.
Hearing a suo motu Public Interest Litigation, the Court directed the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to conduct a fresh quantitative and qualitative analysis of the lake water and submit an interim report at the next hearing. The Court also asked the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to clarify the status of sewer connections issued to residents who had previously received notices.
Further, the Bench sought details on the role of SIDCGL and the action being taken against properties allegedly discharging sewage into the environment.
The case has reignited questions over environmental governance, monitoring failures, and whether authorities acted only after ecological damage became impossible to ignore.
Seeking Government Answers:
How long was untreated sewage allegedly entering the lake before action was initiated?
