In this video I talk about the necessity of casting Skagit heads and if they are absolutely necessary for casting tips such as T 14 Sink tips T 11 sink tips, or T 8 sink tips whether we need them for MOW Tips or
The answer may surprise you. I’ve heard of guys casting T 14 with the Scandi short body which is designed for lighter tips but the tip is not the problem. do you need a reo Skagit max for throwing T8? Answer: not really you don’t need an airflow Skagit compact to Cast t -eight, Can you cast T 14 on an airflow range? Yeah I’m sure there’s somebody out there doing that.
The problem is the fly if you’re casting an intruder do you want a heavier sink tip such as T 11 or T 14, minimally, T8 sink tip my turn over the intruder steelhead fly, probably the most famous fly, which is a pain to cast, so most guides even with a Skagit line don’t use intruders.
In this video I take a big heavy dumbbell and fly with a massive head that pushes a ton of water and I cast it onto Gail for a 15 meter shooting head.
The best spay rod in my arsenal for this is my Bruce and Walker 15 foot 7/8 weight power light spey caster.
It was a real challenge to get the fly to turn over but this Gail force speed line is so perfectly design did it actually could turn over this big fly with a T 11 sink tip. I did it to see if it could be done so you could see what it looks like and realize that you don’t need a Skagit head for every situation. The OPS the commando heads are a great tool for your arsenal but if you don’t have one yet realize that there are other options and you might even have one in your own kit. Thank you for watching.
