Ah, Chicanná Ecovillage Resort. Where the mosquitoes are as friendly as the locals, and the food is as authentic as the wildlife.
I arrived at the resort after a long and bumpy journey, eager to embrace the simple life. And simple it was. The bungalows were charmingly rustic, with thatched roofs and no electricity. Perfect for a spot of communing with nature, as long as you don't mind sharing your bed with a few friendly spiders.
The days were spent exploring the lush jungle, swimming in the refreshing pool, and learning about the fascinating Mayan culture. The evenings were spent enjoying delicious local cuisine (beware the habanero chillies!), and listening to the sounds of the rainforest.
Of course, no eco-resort is complete without a few creature comforts. And while the resort did have its quirks – the wifi was intermittent, and the water pressure was, shall we say, enthusiastic – these were all part of the charm.
So if you're looking for a luxurious getaway, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for an authentic, off-the-beaten-track adventure, then the Chicanná Ecovillage Resort is sure to tick all the boxes. Just remember to pack your mosquito repellent!
