In this video we saw the behavior of metal halide MH, high pressure mercury HPM and high pressure sodium HPS lamps in hot restrike, as shown in the video, MH metal halide lamps as well as the similar ceramic metal halide CMH with a minimum hot restart time of about 5 minutes, on the contrary we see that the high pressure mercury HMP was significantly faster at about 1.5 minutes, but the one that won by a large margin from all the others is the high pressure sodium with a hot restart time of almost zero. In this particular case with this particular igniter the hot restart time was really impressive with zero time, as it impressed me too but this of course differs from every HPS lamp as well as the ballast and mainly the igniter and the combination of these two! Usually HPS lamps have a hot restrike, but minimal that is, when the lamp has not even had time to cool down and the internal pressure of the sodium and mercury vapors in the ceramic arc tube the HPS lamp is under high pressure of about 1-2 bar, but when we turn it on immediately, or in a momentary power outage something similar happens, the igniter gives high voltage pulses, usually 2-3Kv, and ultimately it does not succeed immediately, but after about, usually if the lamp is new, 8-15 seconds, depending on the lamp and its age. If the lamp is old or nearing the end of its life, or even worse, in Cycling mode where it will turn on and off by itself, it will probably be harder to grip it while it is hot, but this wears out and stresses the electrodes the bulbp, although HPS lamps are more durable compared to MH or MV to turn on immediately without even having time to cool down but if this happens often, it will probably reduce the life of the lamp to a large extent, which is why it is recommended to give it at least 1-2 minutes so that the pressure can somehow drop a little, but the ideal is from 3 to 7 minutes so that it cools down completely, for HPM the same and for MH/CMH at least 7 minutes the minimum the ideal 10-12 and maybe 15 minutes if the temperatures in your area are high at night e.g. 25 or 28ºC there it takes a few minutes longer
