Our Almost Lap of Tasmania | Postponed Honeymoon / Birthday Road Trip

Описание: This trip was planned to be our winter honeymoon, but after some very fair advice from friends and family, we postponed and finally set off in December. Travelling from Brisbane on December 2nd, 2025 we chased landscapes, wildlife, and a long-dreamed road trip through Tasmania.

We headed South via Port Macquarie to see friends, spent a night in the Kosciuszko region, then rolled into Geelong to board the Spirit of Tasmania.

Shannen woke up to her birthday in Devonport, and from there our Tassie adventure began, starting with Cradle Mountain, where we spent days walking, exploring, and soaking in the alpine scenery.

Wild weather shaped the rest of the trip. We skipped a soaking run through the Tarkine and redirected to Mount Field National Park, before crossing to Bruny Island for two nights of exploring (and a failed penguin outing).

From there we based ourselves near Hobart to enjoy the Salamanca Markets, Tahune Adventures, and views from Mount Wellington, before turning east in search of calmer weather. Despite carrying paddleboards on the roof for most of the trip, we managed one peaceful afternoon in Freycinet National Park before the wind settled in again.

Changing forecasts forced us to cut parts of the East coast short, passing through Bicheno and the Bay of Fires, and make our way North to Launceston. With an earlier-than-planned crossing, we headed back to the mainland and began the long drive home.

An unexpected night in Bungonia, a surprise nudist beach near Freeman’s, one last catch-up with friends in Port Macquarie, and finally, home to Brisbane just before Christmas.
