The Tejas Fighter Jet has taken centre stage in India Japan defence cooperation after Japan Air Self-Defense Force Chief of Staff General Takehiro Morita flew the Indian fighter jet during Veer Guardian 2026 in Jodhpur. Flying a twin-seat trainer for around 20–25 minutes alongside Group Captain I. Samrat, Morita called the experience “a truly invaluable experience” and praised Tejas as a symbol of indigenous technology and the Make in India initiative.
The sortie marks an important moment for the Indian Air Force (indian air force) and India’s growing defence aviation industry. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh described Morita’s flight as a “very clear example” of Japan’s trust in the Indian Fighter Jet. The exercise also features Japanese F-2A fighter jets operating alongside LCA Tejas, Su-30MKI and Rafale fighters. While the report focuses on the current Tejas development, India’s indigenous fighter programme extends across the Tejas Mk1, Tejas Mk1A, Tejas Mk2, HAL Tejas and future Indian fighter jet capabilities. HAL and India’s defence ecosystem continue to play a major role in this effort.
In another major Indian Defence Update, a new DRDO missile and weapons testing range is planned at Junput in West Bengal. The 8.73-acre facility could support trials involving missiles, radars and rocket launchers, adding to India’s defence infrastructure. Meanwhile, Malaysia is exploring the BrahMos missile for its 18 Su-30MKM fighters, highlighting India’s expanding defence-export ambitions.
