Baramulla, [November 27th, 2024]: Government Medical College Baramulla and its Associated Hospital are proud to announce the inauguration of state-of-the-art Medical Records Section (MRD) and Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL). This milestone marks a significant step forward in the college's mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to the community. The construction of MRD section was jointly funded by aspirational district award money from the district administration and Government Medical College Capex budget, while as VRDL is funded by Department of Health Research, Indian Council od Medical Research (DHR-ICMR), Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Government of India.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Minga Sherpa IAS, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla who formally launched these facilities. He was accompanied by Prof. (Dr). Ruby Reshi, Principal and Dean Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital, GMC Baramulla, Dr. Junaid Ahmad Associate Professor and Head Department of Microbiology, GMC Baramulla, HODs from clinical and non-clinical Departments and other faculty and staff.
The event included tour of the MRD section and the VRDL laboratory, demonstrations of equipment, and briefing by Principal GMC Baramulla on the importance of these facilities in advancing healthcare in district Baramulla and adjoining districts of the North Kashmir.
The Medical Records Section will serve as a centralized repository for patient records, ensuring easy access and confidentiality. This will streamline clinical workflows, improve patient care, and its location just outside the associated hospital will also decongest the hospital corridors.
The Medical Records Section is equipped with modern technology and staffed by trained professionals to ensure that patient records are accurately maintained, easily accessible, and securely stored. This facility will greatly benefit patients, healthcare providers, and researchers by providing timely and accurate access to medical records. The facility just outside the associated hospital has a total of ten counters, which will provide OPD tickets (online), offline counters, payment related counters and blood collection counters, scan and share facility etc. to the patients and attendants.
The Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL), on the other hand, is equipped with cutting-edge technology to diagnose and do research on viral diseases. VRDL is already providing free of cost ELISA based diagnostic services for various viruses like Hepatitis A, E, B, C, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes Simplex Virus, and Varicella-zoster virus. This laboratory will play a crucial role in enhancing the college's capacity for diagnosis of viral infections, disease surveillance, outbreak response, and research activities. Which include but not limited to, Viral hepatitis, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Influenza, Cytomegalovirus, and other emerging and re-emerging viruses.
