It's easy to remove the frame from the Atlas Athlete Pack with the right tool. This is a great hack for airline travel should you ever need to remove the frame and bring down the height of the pack.
After you watch this video you will be able to remove / reinstall the frame using any tool like a tire iron, multi-bit screwdriver or wrench.
For airline travel the Atlas Athlete Pack easily fits both overhead and under the seat. The design of the Athlete Pack allows for the top section of the pack to be less than 1/2 deep with the frame in. This puts the medium Athlete Pack at roughly 21" and the large Athlete Pack at roughly 23" with the standard frame and roughly 20" with the travel frame. A loose frame can easily be easily be stowed in the overhead bins. Please note the orientation and curve that follows the shape of the shoulder straps and works away from the body.
