"Well perhaps I am out of my mind a little bit - of course most people who have fun in this world are just a wee bit crazy..."
At 25 years old, Syd Scroggie lost most of his left leg and the sight in both his eyes when he stepped on a landmine during the Second World War. On his return to Scotland, in spite of his injuries, Syd felt the urge to return to his great love, climbing. Now, he can be found most weekends scaling the Scottish hills with a companion.
Bob Langley chats to Syd at the junction of Glendoll and Glen Clova, where the wonderfully eloquent mountaineer expresses his love of climbing in vivid detail.
Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, 3 November, 1971.
