I attempted the SA sardine run in the summer of 2018. Billions of sardines migrate up the eastern coast of Africa, creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Most people are unaware that they do not need to swim in the cold waters in dry suits of South Africa to search for the sardines because this phenomenon is almost guaranteed in the warm tropical waters of the Philippines.
The best thing is that you do not need a boat to reach the huge schools of sardines. Simply swim out or walk out during low tide and you will find them just right off the beach in the small town of Moalboal, Cebu, in the Philippines.
We stayed and dived with The Kasai Village Dive Resort for four days and completed ten dives.
