Today we are going down what's referred to as Kings Bastion. It's a small part of the largest of the ring forts that were built to defend Chatham Dockyard for the Napoleonic war. As with most of the forts they were repurposed and used in WW1 and WW2. This section is two small casemates (to defend the dry moat), and a tunnel that led to a spiral staircase which would have had a guardhouse on top. During either WW1 or WW2 the addition of an air raid shelter was cut through from the short tunnel.
