High quality Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) deliver multiple benefits including managing flood risk, enhancing biodiversity, improving water quality and creating attractive, usable places. To achieve these outcomes, SuDS must be integrated early in the design and layout of new developments alongside buildings, roads and public open spaces.
This short animation introduces CIRIA’s latest guidance 'Getting SuDS right from the start', which outlines the key principles for early and effective integration of SuDS into developments. The guidance supports developers, planners, consultants and Lead Local Flood Authorities in working together from the outset, helping to secure multi-functional SuDS, make efficient use of land, and ensure compliance with the National Planning Policy Framework and emerging Design Code requirements.
