schalter.exe creates electronic music inspired by the MS-DOS era of personal computing – drawing on demoscene music, early multimedia software, and old PC game soundtracks.
Following a DIY approach, schalter.exe works exclusively with a self-built software synthesizer that mimics the quirks of late 20th-century IBM PC soundcards like AdLib or Soundblaster – the very hardware that defined the sound of that era.
The lo-fi grittiness of schalter.exe's music reminds us that computers are clunky machines, operated by human hands.
With the debut release 'I can guide you through the maze', schalter.exe contributes to the microgenres of #DOSwave and #DOScore.
