On the eve of the New Year, Rajasthan’s Tonk district witnessed a major security operation when the District Special Team (DST) of Tonk Police seized 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate. The explosives were recovered from a Maruti Ciaz car on December 31, 2025, as part of a routine check near the Baruni Police Station area. The discovery has raised significant concerns, especially after the deadly car bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, which killed 12 people and injured several others. The blast involved ammonium nitrate and other high-grade explosives.

The police are treating the incident with utmost seriousness, as such a large quantity of ammonium nitrate is alarming. Investigations are underway to determine whether the explosives were intended for a larger, dangerous purpose. The car carrying the explosives was stopped after a tip-off, and inside, the police found ammonium nitrate hidden in urea bags along with 200 explosive cartridges and 1,100 meters of wire.
