DBT Radical acceptance exercise
1. Pause and Breathe: Take slow, mindful breaths to center yourself.
2. Notice Reality: Identify a situation, thought, or feeling that is causing suffering.
3. Acknowledge the Facts: Recognize reality as it is, not as you wish it were.
4. Mentally Accept: Say to yourself: “It is what it is. I cannot change this right now.”
5. Allow Emotions: Notice any emotions that arise without judgment. Let them exist without fighting them.
6. Focus on Action: Ask: “What can I do within my control right now?” Shift energy to constructive actions.
7. Optional Reflection: Notice how acceptance changes your emotional intensity and perspective.
