STORYLINE:
A feminist group held an event in Santiago on Wednesday at the city's Plaza de Armas to help inform people about the changes in the new proposed version of Chile's constitution.
The vote in the upcoming Chilean referendum on whether to adopt a new constitution to replace the one imposed by the military dictatorship 41 years ago will take place on September 4.
"Sexual and gender dissidence are at the center of the constitutional proposal that we are offering to the country, which can mean the eradication of centuries-old injustice," stated Alondra Carrillo who helped write the new constitution.
The new bill was drafted by a Constitutional Convention of 154 democratically elected members, of which 76% are from the left and centre.
The ruling party is in favour of approving the text of 388 articles, while the right and centre-right opposition favour its rejection.
