José Elías (c. 1678 – c. 1755) was Catalan organist and composer. He may have been a student of Juan Cabanilles. This rare piece was, as the title suggests, played as the introduction to the 'Te Deum' hymn typically sung on joyous occasions like victories or fittingly, the New Year. The rest of the Te Deum would likely have been performed in 'alternatum' (i.e., verse, then organ ritornello, then verse and so on).
