The Verzasca or Contra Dam is an arch dam on the Verzasca river above Tenero (Ticino) in southern Switzerland. The Verzasca Dam was constructed between 1961 and 1965 and creates Lago (lake) di Vogorno. The lake has a capacity of 105 millions m3.
The concrete dam is 220 m high and 380 m wide. It has two overflow channels.
In the James Bond film GoldenEye (1995) you can see the Verzasca Dam in the opening bungee jumping scene. You can try a bungee jump on the original film location. The adventure is not cheap.
If you travel by car, don’t foreget that there are only a few parking spots near the dam. You can take a bus from Tenero railway station to the dam. Hiking time from Tenero to the Verzasca dam is more than an hour.
There is no accomodation near the dam, but in Locarno and Muralto you will find many hotels.
