PolkaDot was founded by Ethereum’s co-founder, Dr. Gavin Wood since he was annoyed with the progress of Ethereum 2.0. In twenty-twenty, PolkaDot was known to be among one of the best performing cryptocurrencies. Within a year, it crossed the market capitalization of $26 billion. People called it to be the Ethereum Killer, but little did they know, it was created because the founders were frustrated with the progress of Ethereum 2.0. 

Ethereum faces congestion and high-cost issues that makes it impractical for real-world use. To overcome these limitations, PolkaDot was created. They further added that the primary reason that PolkaDot can overtake Ethereum is that the development within the Ethereum blockchain is very slow-paced. PolkaDot uses a sharded blockchain protocol that unites the whole network into a single decentralized ecosystem and operates efficiently and securely at scale with other blockchains. It aims to upgrade from Web 2.0 to 3.0, a third-generation internet where the user can control its identity, money, and data.
