This is my favorite chocolate cake recipe. The addition of espresso coffee is optional but recommended. It amps up the chocolate flavor.
This cake does not dome during baking and does not require trimming when you're ready to assemble your cake with frosting. I love it's flavor and crumb texture.
It's perfect with whipped cream, ganache, cream cheese frosting, chocolate buttercream or any flavored buttercreams you can think of !
This is definitely my go to.
Recipes makes 2- 8 inch cakes. Double the recipe for larger pans.
Ingredients:
1 c all purpose flour
1/2 c cake flour
1 1/2 c sugar
3/4 c cocoa powder ( I use special dark cocoa powder from Nestle )
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
3/4 c buttermilk
3/4 c hot water
2 tsp espresso Powder
1/4 c vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
