The Ministry of Works has advised motorists who fall victim to the ‘number plate theft racket’ not to pay bribes to scammers, but to file for duplicates.
As the transition to digital number plates via Intelligent Transport Management Systems (ITMS) progresses, several motorists have been deceived by gangs that steal number plates and demand cash later.
The ministry also unveiled plans for a nationwide rollout of mandatory digital number plate registration to combat crime.
