In this electric violin cover of"Yesterday" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Christian Howes uses a loop pedal and the Yamaha silent electric violin
For the second loop in the song, he uses an octave below effect to create a bass line on his electric violin. Following his interpretation of the melody, he improvises a jazz violin solo over the form of the song. Finally, he creates a new electric violin loop as a vamp to close the song where he also utilizes the "octave up" feature and a distortion pedal.. www.christianhowes.com for instructional resources to improvise on violin, viola, cello, an annual summer conference for improvising string players and much more.

"Yesterday" - The Beatles (electric violin cover)
Electric violinist Christian Howes uses a loop pedal and the Yamaha silent electric violin combined with effects from his Boss ME-70 multi-effects pedal. Christian uses the volume pedal to create an organ-like effect while setting up the first loop of "Yesterday" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. For the second loop in the song, he uses an octave below effect to create a bass line on his electric violin. Following his interpretation of the melody, he improvises a jazz violin solo over the form of the song. Finally, he creates a new electric violin loop as a vamp to close the song where he also utilizes the "octave up" feature and a distortion pedal.
