GRUPO BONGAR is composed of six young members of the Xambá terreiro, from the Quilombo Portão do Gelo in Olinda. They bring to the stages, the traditional Festa do Coco da Xambá, held in the community for over 40 years. Bongar work is also related to the preservation and promotion of Pernambuco’s traditions, and the musical learning of the band members is based on popular culture and specifically on Xambá religious community.
In their show, Bongar showcases all Coco do Xambá musicality, a variation of this rhythm so much present in Northeast of Brazil, besides Ciranda, Maracatu, Candomblé and other rhythms from roots’ culture. Bongar also proposes class-shows or workshops of percussion, popular dance or instrument manufacturing.
