Creative Café Careers Events form the heart of our flagship careers programme. The restrictions imposed due to COVID-19 meant we had to find other ways to explore how young people could continue to participate in meaningful encounters with a variety of professionals.
Siobhan Harkin is a publishing consultant and licensing executive, and one of 6 professionals from the Hastings and Rother area working in the creative sector that we invited, along with some local students to join us in a career conversation via video conference. The resulting films each include a professional introduction, Q&A session, top tips for being successful in a specific industry, and a task-based challenge.
Tasks set in the creative challenge are real-life situations that one might encounter during a working week and are suitable for KS3/4/5/6 students. All include problem-solving, communication and literacy skills, working as a team, and creative thinking. These resources can be useful in supporting your school to deliver Gatsby Benchmark 4 - Linking the curriculum learning to careers. The creative challenges can be used to support activities in the classroom or for setting homework in conjunction with each separate film or as standalone resources.
