In epoca rinascimentale, la forma musicale dello scherzo esprime il senso della facezia, della burla, della farsa satirica così come il suo nome suggerisce; in epoca classica invece, assume la forma di minuetto che, seppure di proporzioni giunoniche, conserva comunque uno spirito galante e aristocratico. Quali delle due espressività emotive musicali vuol far rivivere Schubert nei suoi lunghi scherzi in si bemolle maggiore e in re bemolle maggiore? ...
Nello Scherzo in si bemolle maggiore i valori veloci iniziali in ritmo di terzina chiudono su valori più lunghi, quasi a raffigurare - con uno spirito satirico indirizzato alla società aristocratica del tempo - una fatica immane compiuta da chi non è avvezzo al lavoro, seguita dal bisogno di un riposo ristoratore. Nel trio, l'intento satirico del compositore addirittura rievoca un'atmosfera epica, realizzata mediante la frequente ripetizione dell'intervallo di quarta ascendente: il protagonista, nato stanco, racconta il suo sforzo eroico agli amici, che lo seguono senza interesse.

In the Renaissance era, the musical form of the joke expresses the sense of joke, prank, satirical farce as its name suggests; in the classical era, however, it took the form of a minuet which, although of Junoesque proportions, still retained a gallant and aristocratic spirit. Which of the two musical emotional expressivenesses does Schubert want to revive in his long canzones in B-flat major and D-flat major? ...
In the Scherzo in B flat major the initial fast values in triplet rhythm end on longer values, almost as if to depict - with a satirical spirit aimed at the aristocratic society of the time - an immense effort made by those not accustomed to work, followed by the need of a restorative rest. In the trio, the composer's satirical intent even evokes an epic atmosphere, achieved through the frequent repetition of the ascending fourth interval: the protagonist, born tired, recounts the heroic effort to his friends, who follow him without interest.

Antonio Castagna si è diplomato presso l’IMP “G. Braga” di Teramo e, successivamente, si è perfezionato con il M° Franco Medori e con il M° Carlo Zecchi.
Ha suonato successivamente in ARGENTINA, COREA del SUD, GERMANIA, SVIZZERA, AUSTRIA, USA .
Nel 2001 é stato nuovamente invitato a Salisburgo e nel mese di giugno ha suonato a Parigi, presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
Ha suonato a Lanciano per la XXX Estate Musicale Frentana e quindi a Basilea per il Consolato Generale d’Italia.
Su invito dell'Istituto Italiano di Cultura, ha suonato in BRASILE, a Rio de Janeiro.
Nel mese di novembre 2010 ha suonato, con il Trio di Teramo, a Filadelfia (USA) nello Haverford College, nella Union League e nel Consolato Generale d’Italia.
E' stato Direttore, dal 1996 al 2012, dell’I.S.S.M “Gaetano BRAGA“ di Teramo. E' stato docente di Pianoforte nei Conservatori di Foggia e di Teramo.

Antonio Castagna graduated from IMP “G. Braga” of Teramo and, subsequently, he perfected himself with Maestro Franco Medori and Maestro Carlo Zecchi.
He has held numerous concerts and recitals in Italy and abroad . He has participated several times in RAI radio and television programs.
He played in Salzburg as part of the Salzburger Schlosskonzerte and in Paris, at the Italian Cultural Institute, as part of the “Hommage à LA FIGLIA DI JORIO” event.
He toured Basel for the Consulate General of Italy.
At the invitation of the Italian Cultural Institute, he played in BRAZIL, in Rio de Janeiro, in the prestigious National Museum of Fine Arts.
He played, with the Teramo Trio, in Philadelphia (USA) in the Marshall Auditorium of Haverford College, in the Lincoln Hall of the Union League.
He was Director, from 1996 to 2012, of the I.S.S.M "Gaetano BRAGA" of Teramo. He was a piano teacher at the Conservatories of Foggia and Teramo.
His recordings are also on the official website of the HalidonMusic record label, world leader in classical and instrumental music.
