I searched high and low in order to find a tutorial on how to cut off the end of a split rail fence to get the length of rail that I needed. It was difficult for me to find a solution that I liked... so, I decided to make my own tutorial on how to cut off the end of a split rail fence rail.
In this video, I make four cuts.
*First cut: cut the rail to the desired length.
*Second cut: cut a triangular sliver off the side of the rail.
*Third cut: cut another triangular sliver off the other side of the rail.
*Fourth cut: Cut the sliver off of the face of the rail.
The goal of the second, third and fourth cuts, is to match the original end's design and cuts. In this video, I position the original cut off end directly under the rail that I am cutting. I do this, so I can mimic my new cuts based on the original end's cuts.
Please remember to use the necessary safety precautions when using a chain saw, eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, etc.
