This is a video of my traveling along the Indus River on my bicycle and reaching the town of Ghorghushti, located in Hazro Tehsil of Attock District, which is not only known for its prosperity but also for its remarkable spirit of community service.
In this video, we explore the inspiring story of Ujala Trust, a welfare organization that has transformed the lives of people in this beautiful village of Attock District, Pakistan.
Founded in 2004, Ujala Trust began with a simple but powerful mission: to provide ambulance services and welfare support to the people of Ghorghushti and nearby villages. What started as a small community effort has now become one of the most impressive village welfare models in Pakistan.
Unlike many organizations, Ujala Welfare Trust operates completely on donations and is entirely non-political and non-profit. Every member of the trust works voluntarily without taking any salary. This dedication and transparency have built immense trust among the people of Ghorghushti and surrounding areas.
One of the most impactful initiatives of Ujala Trust is the Clean Ghorghushti Project. Through this project, the entire village has a regular waste management and sanitation system. Garbage is collected from households and disposed of through a systematic dumping process. Only a small symbolic fee is charged so that every household can participate in maintaining a clean environment.
Another remarkable service provided by the trust is the Tractor Trolley Service during funerals. Whenever a death occurs in the village, Ujala Trust provides transportation of stones, blocks, and materials needed to prepare the grave. This thoughtful service reduces the burden on grieving families during difficult times.
Healthcare is also a major focus of Ujala Trust. Every year, the organization conducts Free Medical Camps, offering free health checkups and medical advice to residents.
The trust also operates a medical complex equipped with modern facilities, including emergency care, laboratories, surgery rooms, and trained doctors. Multiple ambulances operate under the trust, while volunteers use motorcycles to respond quickly to emergencies.
Education is another pillar of the trust’s mission. Through the School Awards Program, talented and hardworking students are recognized with medals, shields, bicycles, and cash prizes. These awards motivate students and encourage a culture of learning within the community. Ujala Trust also provides a free school bus service, ensuring that distance never becomes a barrier to education.
The village cemetery of Ghorghushti is another unique example of organized community care. The cemetery is well maintained, beautifully arranged, and surrounded by greenery and trees that create an atmosphere of peace and respect. Additionally, a dedicated cemetery space of about three kanals has been allocated for deserving families who do not own burial land.
One of the most modern initiatives of the trust is the Water Filtration Plant, which uses the Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. Through multiple filtration stages, this plant removes harmful bacteria and chemical contaminants, providing clean drinking water to residents completely free of cost.
This project reflects the belief that clean water is a fundamental human right.
Transparency is the strongest foundation of Ujala Trust. The trust regularly conducts financial audits and public meetings, where details of collected donations and expenses are openly shared with the community. This culture of accountability ensures that donors remain confident that their contributions are used for genuine welfare work.
The story of Ujala Trust Ghorghushti is not just about a welfare organization—it is about collective responsibility, community unity, and the power of volunteerism. This small town along the Indus River teaches us a powerful lesson: when people work together with sincerity, they can build a model society that inspires the entire nation.
