Cheap Mustang Lumbar Seat Repair

Does your back hurt because your lumbar-equipped seat failed? We found out that our 2010 Ford Mustang convertible with the Premium package had a busted lumbar mechanism.

How did you know?
We noticed that our back ached on drives because the lower portion of the driver's seat offered no support. The foam cushion in the S197 Mustang is not enough to keep our aging back upright. We went to work pulling the seat out and repairing it with a few simple tools and materials we found in the garage.

A small hose clamp will need to be installed where the spring (now broken) connects the left and right sides of the lumbar mechanism. We used a small Dremel cutting wheel to remove the broken spring parts. Then we cut the plastic "ears" aways from the strap that supports the lumbar movement. The small metal hose clamp is installed and should be beneficial for years.
