Speaking during the Session IV on Financing and future-proofing the United Nations, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, member of the Pakistan parliamentary delegation that attended the IPU Annual Hearing 2026, made the following suggestions to overcome the funding shortage:
➡️ Full, timely payments of assessed contributions by all Member States in accordance with the UN Charter.
➡️ Strengthened mechanisms for transparency and parliamentary oversight to hold governments accountable for their dues.
➡️ A shift toward more core, unearmarked funding to ensure balanced support for peace, development, and humanitarian mandates. February 13, 2026
