Welcome back to Ryan’s Retro Weekend Rentals.
This episode is Castlevania on the NES — a game I remember clearly, but haven’t played in decades.
This series isn’t about guides, speedruns, or completion. I’m revisiting games the way we did back then — as weekend rentals — spending real time with them to see how they feel, how they teach, and what they ask of the player.
In this session, I let Castlevania set the pace and focus on movement, learning through failure, enemy placement, and how deliberate the game really is.
At the end, I reflect on whether this worked as a rental in its time and how the gameplay holds up today.
