Coronary artery disease is caused by plaque buildup in the wall of the arteries that supply blood to the heart (called coronary arteries). Plaque is made up of cholesterol deposits. Plaque buildup causes the inside of the arteries to narrow over time. This process is called atherosclerosis.
There are three types of coronary heart disease, including:
obstructive coronary artery disease ;
nonobstructive coronary artery disease ;
spontaneous coronary artery dissection.
Nitrates: nitrates effective at managing all forms of angina are first-line therapy for the management of acute anginal symptoms. They relax vascular smooth muscle and reduce myocardial oxygen demand by inducing systemic vasodilation.
