Big changes are coming to one of Edina’s most iconic buildings. 🏒
The city is officially moving closer to a $45.2 million expansion and renovation of Braemar Arena, a place that a lot of locals grew up skating, watching games, or spending long winter nights. Construction is expected to start this summer, with a full buildout planned for fall 2027.
What’s included matters. A brand new indoor ice rink. A larger lobby to reduce crowding. Major accessibility upgrades. Updated locker rooms, restrooms, HVAC, refrigeration, and ice making systems. There’s even a new central corridor and a dedicated drop off and pick up lane to help fix traffic headaches during peak hours.
The city is also being intentional about preserving what makes Braemar special. The historic West Rink stays, keeping that classic bowl feel that city leaders compare to Wrigley Field or Lambeau. Behind the scenes, the project also targets better energy efficiency and ice quality, which is no small task for an arena that hosts more than one million visits every year.
This project is funded by the half cent sales tax Edina voters approved back in 2022. Love it or not, this is a long term investment in local sports, families, and community space.
