This conversation may contain movie spoilers Actor John Garfield, known for his earthy performances of world weary men, was an early originator of The Method style of acting. His impressive career ground to a halt in large part because of the Hollywood blacklisting that took place in 1947 and ruined the careers of many actors, directors and writers who were accused of being Communist. Carla Valderrama, author of the book This Was Hollywood, spoke with Ben Mankiewicz in 2020 to about Garfield's blacklisting and his 1947 film Body and Soul.
