This is Falcom's official PSP remake of Brandish, an action RPG launched on the PC-98 and FM Towns. The original game also has a SNES port from Koei. A version for the PC Engine also appeared but didn't see light of day outside Japan. Later in 2009, BTDR was made for PSP and got localised by XSEED in 2015. Better late than never.
BTDR has 3D graphics and an actual rotation effect, instead of the potentially confusing 90 degree jump turning from the original. JDK has rearranged the game's soundtrack, but there is an option to use the original tunes. Weapons will break after enough uses. You can stay your blade and dispatch enemies with punches to work on your Strength stat.
If this got a remaster on PS4 or PC, I'd buy it again. It would've been nice to see Brandish 2: The Planet Buster get a similar treatment on PSVita with even better graphics.
