Another wonderful song from James Taylor with living legend Lee Sklar on bass! The bassline is wonderful simple in the beginning of the song. Lee plays a lot of half notes.
I especially like the way he plays the eight notes lick in for instance bar 18. He could play each note (E-F-F#-G) apart, but he choses to play the E-F with a slide and hitting the note with the right hand once. These are small details but gives flavor to the basslines.
The melodic lines in the Interlude are just beautiful! Slides up- and downwards and played really relaxed.
And I also like the small variations Lee makes in the main bassline of the Outro. All these variations are not ‘in your face’ which makes them beautiful simple.
Enjoy this beautiful song from James and Lee!

I play this song on a Fender Jazz Bass with roundwound strings. Tuning is E A D G. No effects used except a bit compression and a bit distortion from a preamp. Don’t forget to tune your bass a bit higher (A4 = 444 Hz).
Bass: Lee Sklar
Album: In the pocket (1976)
