'Australia's Guantanamo Bay' as the Manus Regional Processing Centre was notoriously known as was a detention facility used to house asylum seekers and illegal immigrants by the Australian government.
The refugees and immigrants were neither allowed to return to their home countries nor move to Australia. In a show of defiance against Australia's decision to close down the centre in October 31, the inmates refused to leave the premises for almost two months finally vacating it after Papuan authorities stormed it on November 24, 2017.
