I used a historical Seaman ID, a Continuous Certificate of Discharge as the base for this project, and made a printable digital folio kit.
I designed the printable pages one-sided, because I never got any luck printing double-sided pages, so I just print on ~130gsm paper and fold and glue my pages to make them double-sided.

For the ephemera I used lots of antique photographs, advertisements, documents, post cards and postage stamps, cigarette and tobacco labels, maritime book covers etc. from the early 1900s.

With the ephemera pieces I tried to capture small glimpses of the daily life of the seafarers serving during this time, pictures of the crew they may have served with, ships they may worked on, post cards they maybe have sent home, documents and tobacco boxes they could have in their pockets, cigarette silks and letters they may have kept while they lived and worked under demanding conditions.

All based on real historical memorabilia from that time.
