STORYLINE:
China’s foreign minister on Sunday said the Iran war "should never have happened" and did not benefit anyone.

Wang Yi also called for an immediate end to military actions and urged all parties to return to the negotiating table.

Wang made the comments during a news conference on the sideline of the ongoing annual session of the country’s National People’s Congress.

“Force is not the solution to problems, and military confrontation will only add new hatred and brew new crises,” the foreign minister told reporters.

He said the sovereignty of Iran and other Gulf states must be respected and Middle East affairs should be decided by regional countries independently.
