Perform transmission fluid change on a 2009 Toyota Corolla.
I used about 2.8 quart of Aisin type WS (AISIN Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF0WS); however, the amount of fluid may be slightly different based on the time you allow the old fluid to drain out and how level you park your car and/or the weather condition and so forth.
Safety first - always use jack stands when working under car.
1) get drain pan.
2) get 10mm HEX socket
3) buy at least 3-4 quart of Aisin transmission fluid (please refer to your manual)
4) Warm up engine
5) Locate drain plug (on driver side)
6) insert 10mm hex and remove drain plug
7) clean drain plug by removing dirt (metal debris)
8) put drain plug back the same way as you unscrew it out.
9) pour 2 quart of transmission fluid first then start engine to fill it back to the correct level. (between cool and hot). notes: I put back about 2.8 quart in total.
10) start engine and shift through all gears. When engine is running, fluid level
should be between cold and hot on the dip stick.
11) Check again next morning (cold), first start the car and the fluid should be touching the Cold level mark.
12) That's all folks. good for another 60,000 miles. (refer to your manual for next fluid change).
Based on my corolla, it has 6.9 (round to 7) quart in total, I changed about 2.8 quart (round to 3); therefore, 3 new quart and 7 old quart 3/7 = 42% new oil. Since this is drain and fill, it is impossible totally remove 100% of old fluid, I believed the best ratio and benefit is to do it 2 times or save the fluid on second time but perform this once every 30,000 miles.
